As part of our 25th anniversary celebration, WWVREMC employees and directors initiated a special 25 Acts of Kindness program in 2019. We reached out to old friends and partners to work on projects. We formed new friendships and partnerships all while working towards a common purpose; extending an extra helping hand to the communities we serve.
Here is the list of acts performed during the year.
Employee food drive - Items were delivered to the Blessing Boxes in Connersville
Hygiene packs to the homeless - Items donated to fill 100 backpacks and handed out to the homeless in the WWVREMC service territory
Union County Head Start - Made Valentine’s Day cards with students
Partnered with Synergistic Solutions, LLC - Donated 65 books to Union County Head Start
Union County Youth Baseball park - Employees repaired lights at the ballfields
Blessing Box in Liberty - Food and miscellaneous items were delivered in March
Past due school lunch accounts - Employee and director donations and money from the Shedding Light on Hunger fund were used to pay a portion of, or all outstanding lunch fees for seniors at eight local high schools
Union County Head Start - Employees read to students
Connersville Babe Ruth Ball Field - Employees repaired lights at the ballfields
Union County Library - Donation made to the library to assist with food expenses for children attending their summer programs
Bike for Kids Cancer - WWVREMC employees joined together to raise money for the program
Blessing Boxes in Connersville - Food and miscellaneous items were delivered in July
Junior Achievement - WWVREMC donated a shelf to the organization
The Feeding Western Wayne Organization - WWVREMC made a monetary donation to help pay their utility bill to offset refrigeration & freezer cost of storing food
WWVREMC held its annual Shedding Light on Hunger (SLOH) Charity Golf Tournament – employees, vendors and the community joined together to raise money for the SLOH program
Sponsor a Lunch Bag Project - 75 lunch bags filled with food were delivered to local students just in time for the school year
Union County Public Library “Loads of Love” laundry project - WWVREMC employees donated laundry supplies
The Feeding Western Wayne Organization - WWVREMC donated the food needed for all September meals provided to local individuals and families
Community Day – September – WWVREMC partnered with Jay County REMC on a project at the Randolph County Historical Society
Community Day – October - WWVREMC partnered with RushShelby Energy on projects at Robert’s Park in Connersville
Brookville Healthcare Facility - WWVREMC employees and family members made fleece tie blankets that were then delivered to all residents of the facility
The Journey Home - Goodie bags for each resident were delivered to the residents of the home filled with personal hygiene items, household supplies, and sweet treats purchased and baked by WWVREMC employees and directors
Hat, Mitten & Scarf Drive - Linemen’s bucket was filled with these items and then distributed to those in need
Liberty Acres Rescue Animal Shelter - Items were collected from employees and delivered to the shelter
Capital Credits Refund - The board of directors approved a special retirement of 100% of the most recent capital credits from 2018
